The day after Christmas…and what a beautiful Christmas it was.
Santa made a wonderful visit…and my children were happy.
Which made me happy.
And it was cold in Texas on Christmas morning…cold enough to turn off the AC.
That made me happy too.
My husband and I decided our Christmas would be different this year…focusing on ‘quality vs. quantity’.
I remember growing up with the sea of gifts under the tree each year. Although I am so thankful to my parents giving me all they could, I honestly can only remember a handful of gifts:
my first Caboodle
New Kids on the Block VHS concert
my brother’s He-Man Castle Greyskull
my first Cabbage Patch Kid
a leather purse my Grandmother sent me from New York
This year we wanted to give our children the gift of contentment…focusing on our family together. Eating. Playing. Christmas Day afternoon movie (if you haven’t seen Tangled, go. now. I cried).
So we started this tradition:
Something you want
Something you need
Something to wear
Something to read
(and I added Art because I think that is important too)
What a blessing it was to our family…seeing the pure joy on my children’s faces and also being able to give to the rest of our family was unbelievable.
And we also remembered the real reason for the season…which is the greatest gift of all.
Wishing you and your family all the blessings life has in store for 2011 and beyond.
