What’s for Snack Wednesday :: These Nuts

So my friend Lana calls me to tell me she is bringing me some nuts at the very moment I almost run over two motorcycles cops standing under the underpass.

She got these nuts from her school and she knows they have rosemary in them, but can’t quite figure out what else is going on with the nuts.

I am cracking up because our conversations are quite funny and if anyone were to ever tap our phones or view our text messages, they would A) call the cops, B) call child protective services or C) want to down a bottle of wine with us.

A few minutes later, there is my precious friend, waiting outside our kid’s school, with a white styrofoam cup full of these nuts.

I take one while she tells me to wait til the very end to figure out what is in these nuts.

Hilarious.  I can’t stop laughing.

Rosemary for sure.  But I can’t figure out the rest either so I take another nut.

Brown sugar Lana says.

Lana offers these nuts to another friend…she can’t figure it out.

It hits me…cayenne.

I tell Lana I’m going to google these nuts…and get to the bottom of this life altering recipe.

And as soon as I walk through the door…I google “rosemary nuts”.



I called Lana and say “did I call cayenne, or did I call cayenne?”

I had to share this story…and recipe.

Because that’s what friends are for.

Laughter, hysterical phone calls, crazy texts…and being nuts together.

Ina Garten’s Rosemary Cashews

This recipe is almost directly from the Bar Nuts at Union Square Cafe in New York City and its wonderful cookbook of the same name.


  • 1 1/4 pounds cashew nuts
  • 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne
  • 2 teaspoons dark brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter


Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Place the nuts on an ungreased baking sheet and bake for about 10 minutes until they are warmed through. Meanwhile, combine the rosemary, pepper, sugar, salt and butter in a large bowl. Toss the warm nuts with the rosemary mixture until the nuts are completely coated. Serve warm.

    Can you say easy?!? This recipe just might be added to a very long list of things I’m planning to make in the next 10 days. If only I could add a couple of extra weeks in before Christmas…..

    that’s true because bibeer gaga and nicki minaj don’t have any talent even with auto tune. But all I’m saying is that I think she should really focus on improving her live performances, I think it would make her even more successful and people who don’t like her now might consider her as a real artist and take her more seriously. Because when you’re in the studio anything can be fake. I’m not saying that for Lana but in general. A live performance is a way to see? the real talent
