DIY Thanksgiving Pillow {Freezer Paper Stencil}

15 Nov

Angie and I had a conversation the other day on the whole Silhouette/Cricut product…we want one but we really don’t want to spend the money on it.

We could buy a whole lotta junk to paint for the price of Silhouette.

I told Angie that I just made a pillow using a freezer paper stencil and it worked beautifully.

And for a fraction of the cost, literally.  A huge roll of freezer paper cost me $3.99.  Now, if Silhouette wants to send Angie and I one to try out, we are all for it…but for now, Angie and I both feel the same that a Silhouette is not in our budget.

So…I give you the good old freezer paper stencil tutorial.

My first thoughts were to use a green burlap and silver glitter spray.  That did not turn out as planned.  It was awful. Krylon’s Glitter Blast is not my friend right now.

After the burlap flop, I went through my pile of fabric and found a pretty winter white cotton and used my favorite Martha Stewart Vintage Gold Metallic paint.  I love that paint…love it.

First, I created a template, found HERE or HERE.

Printed on the DULL side of the freezer paper

Taped it to cardboard.

Using an exacto knife, traced around each letter to create my stencil.

Then, with a hot iron, ironed with the SHINY side down on the fabric.

With my daughter’s paintbrush, dipped and painted…

Then carefully peeled away the freezer paper.

I used a little gem for the “A”

Sewed 3 sides, stuffed…and sewed the last side…

And there she is…sitting pretty.

Do you love?  Have you ever used freezer paper before?

I’m dying to make something else using a freezer paper stencil and I think I have something in mind for Christmas…and so does Angie!

Happy Tuesday, friends!!

This week I’m getting ready for my parents and niece to arrive in Texas from New York. I was born in New York but raised in Texas.  After my dad retired from the Air Force, they moved back my freshman year of college.

I stayed in Texas…you could blame this guy I met at a club, who I eventually married.  :)

And we’ve always had this long distance type of family relationship.

I don’t recommend it.

I miss them terribly.  Miss my sisters.  Miss my nieces and nephew.  Miss all of my family.

But this is the path given to me, and I will be thankful.

When we do get together, it is fast and furious.  Trying to fit so many things in 7 days.  But I am thankful for that time.

While I was putting together my fairy tale pumpkins this week…and trying not to decorate for Christmas before we sat down for Thanksgiving, my thoughts kept circling around everything I am thankful for.

My list could go on for days…my husband, my children, my home, my Bella, my 1999 Ford Expedition that has barely 100,000 miles on it and its still going strong.  I’m thankful for friends who want to be in my life and want me in theirs.

Thank. Full.

Thank. Full.

I am thankfully full of blessings.  I am content.  I am full.

And these words whispered to my heart:

“From the fullness of His grace, we have received one blessing after another.”  John 1:16

“The mouth speaks out of the fullness of the heart.”  Matthew 12:34

This sweet pillow now rests on my bench:

I know someone is thinking I missed spelled thankful.

I did…intentionally.

Thank Full.  I am intentionally full of thanks.

I have the free template for you.  I’ll show you how I created my pillow tomorrow using simple materials.

Download it HERE so you’ll be ready to rock ‘n’ roll.

Thank full for this time.  Thank full for this season.  Thank full for so many things.

Thank full for you reading my words.

Hi friends!

I am finally working on my daughter’s room.  It has been long, hot summer…and honestly, I haven’t felt like tackling that project.

Some progress was made.  We painted the walls Vintage Blue, distressed an old shutter, changed her bedding to a fluffy white down comforter, and found these huge, square pillows at HomeGoods for $9.99 each.

We are moving in the right direction…but she has a huge eye-sore in her room.  And my husband and I do not agree on what do with it.

This bookcase:

It’s sentimental because it was in her nursery and was so precious at the time…and now it just collects junk, dust, and more junk.

And it drives me to drink wine coolers at 2 in the afternoon.  (kidding!)

I want to take it down completely.  The husband does not.

I want to replace with bookcase with a huge wall of vintage guitars, metal letter P’s, photographs of her ballet and her horse, and artwork…special to her…and I know it would be gorgeous above the white beadboard in her room.

Very vintage.  Very girly.

While we duke out if the bookcase stays or goes in the attic, I created this print to frame for my daughter’s room.

A verse that is special to me, for a number a reasons I’ll share soon.

And I’d love to share it with you.

Feel free to download it here:  Heart Print

And print and share for personal use.

Happy Thursday, friends!  I’ll keep you updated on the bookcase debate…and feel free to give me your thoughts on how to convince the husband the bookcase needs to go!!
