Meet Stella

Meet Stella

I found her at thrift store a few months.  She is still in my garage, waiting for me to decide what to do with her.

She is perfect in size…and I love her…but I have no clue what, where, when I can find a home for her inside the house.

I have a bad habit of stalking thrift stores for months at a time.  When I found Stella, she was covered in junk.  I literally ran to her, asked how much, paid $19, and walked out the door in less than 5 minutes.

I also have a bad habit of naming pieces of furniture therefore making each piece personal, which means I can never get rid of anything…which translates to a garage full of furniture that have names…and my husband does not like that…at all because it is HIS garage that is full of MY furniture.  You can feel my pain.

Back to Stella…she has great lines…

and gorgeous handles…

but needs a bit of TLC:

and I love little thrift store finds because when I got home, I opened the bottom drawer and found this:

I know a sweet little boy named Jack who loves the Lord, making this discovery even more precious.

So…what to do with sweet Stella?  I’m thinking silver or gold…not brassy or shiny.

Subtle.  Sophisticated.

Something like this:

Martha Stewarts Precious Metal paint in Tin or Froth.

What do you think?

Decisions, decisions….

Get Sharky!

Get Sharky!

I bought myself a present the other day.  I love it so much, of course I wanted to shout it from the roof tops.

You’ve seen the info-mercials…and I was skeptical at first.

But then I went to mop my kitchen floors and had a flash of what could be lurking on my old mop.

So I did a little research…found my Bed Bath & Beyond 20% off coupon…drove through the horrendous rain…and bought my new best friend:

Shark Steam Cleaner – Deluxe Pro

I love that is uses no chemicals.  I love that the heat and steam naturally clean your floors.  I love that it removed paint splatters on my kitchen floor.

The cloths are completely washable so I am not spending alot of money on additional cleaning supplies.

It is light.  It stores easily in my laundry room.

And I must confess…the mop cloth was black after steaming my kitchen floors. I have used the Shark every day (because I am weird) and now there is hardly any dirt on the cloth.

Makes. Me. Giddy.

Mix this Shark with my love for Method products…its a match made in cleaning heaven.

(Shark has no idea who I am.  I just love it so much and I think you will too!)

Hand-Me-Down Headboard

Hand-Me-Down Headboard

That’s right…a hand-me-down headboard and that’s what friends are for.

The lovely Cory purchased a new, beautiful, very grown up bedroom suite from Z Gallerie [heart!].  It is my most favorite room in Cory’s home.  As a result, the old $25 Goodwill rescued, circa 1990′s, knotty pine headboard was going in the trash.  It had seen better days but alas, I would take her home with me.

Here she is…mismatched to the heavens…I really cannot believe this picture is out in the world for everyone and their grandma to see:

Something had to be done…she was pleading to be painted.  Ask and you shall receive!

A quick trip to Lowe’s for 4 cans of $3 Black spray paint and my trusty 80 grit sanding block:

We, meaning my husband, brought her into the garage.  Pay attention to the scroll bar:

Recruited my Sweet P for assistance (scroll bar still there)…

Literally 2 coats of spray paint later…she is drying, waiting to be sanded down.  Notice anything different??

She has great lines and the scroll-action on top was not working for me…so off it went and what a difference!

Here she is…nice and relaxed with crisp white sheets and a soft Ralph Lauren down duvet.

I was a a little nervous embarking on ‘white bedding’ with children and a puppy but honestly, it has been the best decision.  No trips to cleaners…just drop it in the washer, throw it in the dryer and it is brand new again!

The white duvet was actually covered by the heavy chocolate duvet cover (note top picture!).

The oversized white Euro pillows are from Marshall’s, $19.99 for both (crazy, I know!)

And I no longer have a mismatched bedskirt.  It is just a simple, box pleat skirt from Marshall’s…$29.99!

She is a fabulous…and I love her.

But I love Cory even more for giving her to me in exchange for lunch at The Salt Lick.

A New Beast in Town

A New Beast in Town

Boy, is she ugly. And by ugly…I mean ugly. She is bruised, broken, and beat down. She needed a new home and fast. I came to the rescue when my trusted Big Greenie drove me to Goodwill and I found her waiting for me.

She was priced at $29 big ol’ bucks. Remember…my budget is so tight, it squeaks so I batted my eyes and asked ‘any chance you’ll take $19?’ Without thinking, money exchanged, desk loaded and I texted anyone who’d listen that I just scored a desk for $19!

Why do I need this beast of a desk? Because my sweet P needs a new room. She is 8 and desperately wants a ‘tween’ room with bright colors and Justin Bieber posters. Her current room is light green and pink, a dollhouse bookcase, and a vanity she got when she was 2 that literally collects zhu zhu pets and dirty socks. I adore her room but because she does not adore it, it ends up looking like this:

I really cannot handle a messy room. It drives me to drink Fuzzy Navel wine coolers.

Sweet P loves painting furniture with me so you can imagine her surprise when she saw her ‘new-old’ desk. Our creative juices started flowing and we have decided on a turquoise and orange color scheme with a turquoise desk, white fluffy bedding, crazy colored pillows, tissue paper pom-poms, and vintage finds from our upcoming Mommy/Daughter weekend in Round Top, Texas.

Here’s a taste of what we’re thinking…if you have any ideas, please share!

Paint Me Pretty

Paint Me Pretty

Goodwill became a friend…a close confidant.  Sometimes my car takes over and drives me where it wants to go.  My car…my beloved Big Greenie drove for weeks looking for the perfect bedside piece for my bedroom.  I stalked my favorite resale shop…nothing.  I stalked Craigslist….nothing.  I even stalked my own neighbors on trash day hoping someone decided to throw away a vintage dresser….still nothing.

But that day, I ended up at Goodwill.  I walked to the furniture…and found my bedside piece.  It was chunky…it had great details…and it was begging to be painted.

I ran to the front of the store…said something like ‘How much for that dresser in the back?  Can you go it?  I need to check out NOW because my baby needs milk!’

Next thing I knew, Big Greenie was outside and my new dresser was in the backseat.

Here are the details of one of my most favorite ‘finds’:

$60 at Goodwill

$6 at Lowes for 2 pints of paint (colored matched BM paint)

80 grit sand paper sheets and a knife for distressing

Paint Color:  Benjamin Moore Galapagos Turquoise find it HERE

I won’t lie…it did sit in my garage for over a month…but that’s how I roll.  I have to think about how I want a piece to look…and when it all comes together in my head, it’s magic.
