Monday Inspiration :: Creative photography by Jason Lee

23 Apr

Jason Lee is a wedding photographer who started taking photos of his daughters several years ago after his mom was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma. His daughters constantly had colds and coughs so he couldn’t always bring them to visit their grandmother. Jason wanted his mom to be able to see her granddaughters without catching their germs so he started a blog where his mom could see what was going on in their life.

Jason’s daughters – eight-year-old Kristin and five-year-old Kayla help with photo ideas. Jason says that they are never-ending source of ideas!

If you are tired of posed or stiff photography, then take a look at these incredibly creative pictures taken by Jason Lee.

Happy Weekend – Starting Early at the Roosevelt Hotel

Happy Weekend – Starting Early at the Roosevelt Hotel

Happy weekend everyone!  I hope you are having a great one.

My friend Dave and I started our weekend off early with brunch at the Roosevelt Hotel.

We sipped on Bloody Mary’s and shared a salad and cheese plate while soaking in some sun at the Roosevelt’s pool.  A lot of people may not know it but it’s possible to have breakfast, lunch or dinner poolside.  And the pool is incredible – beautiful design with a view of the mountains in the background.  I am not sure if you are supposed to hang out in the pool if you aren’t staying at the hotel – but we do!! :)

We swam for hours and caught some rays.  Here is a picture of the pool taken with my favorite iPhone photo application – Hipstamatic.

If you are ever in Los Angeles, the Roosevelt Hotel is a must.  It is rich with celebrity history and was the home of the first ever Academy Awards. Located on Hollywood Blvd, it one of the most historic sites on the “Boulevard” that still preserves some of the glamour that was once Hollywood.  For more information on the Roosevelt, click here.

I hope you enjoy your weekend and have a Happy Mother’s Day!  Since my mom lives in another state, I miss her terribly.

If you are fortunate enough to be near your mom – spoil her! :)

Poor baby.

10 Mar

Poor baby.

His greatest joy in life is playing with his big sister and her friends.

Sometimes they let him.

Most times they don’t.

Other times they put red ladybug stamps on his forehead.

But he doesn’t care as long as they let him play.

He is a lover…not a fighter.

A little road trip.

13 Jan

A little road trip.

My family took a little road trip this past weekend.

I had business in Corpus Christi on Saturday and took the whole gang with me.

We packed up…made Bucee’s our first stop for Coke’s, Funyuns, and Twizzlers…all the things you would only eat on a 3 hour car ride.

And off we went.

We visited the USS Lexington and I took this:

It was overwhelming being on a vessel where so many people had lived…worked…protected and died for our country.

My daughter was scared at first but then she was in awe of the history on board.

And Little Man only cared about the “BIG OLE AIRPLANES MOM!”

Then I had my presentation to take care of while my husband and children rested at the hotel.

Afterwards, we went to the Texas State Aquarium.

It was so much fun and this is my most favorite memory of 2011, thus far:

My family.  My precious children.  My amazing husband.

My hope for this year is to take more ‘little road trips’ to spend time together, play Skip-Bo, watch movies and eat Funyuns and Twizzlers.

All four of us slept in the king bed at the hotel that Friday night.

It might have been one of the best night sleeps I have ever had.

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good.  Psalms 136:1

Time of our life.

13 Dec

Time of our life.

What a weekend!

It was fast.  It was furious.  And it was awesome!

Nutcracker 2010 is now in the past and she is ready for Nutcracker 2011.  I don’t know if I am…

They got ready…

They waited…

They flew…

They pounced…

And I snapped one of the Rat King…

And then it was all over.

And we finger-knitted backstage…ate animal crackers…and they giggled about what they want to be in next years Nutcracker.

Oh to be 8 again…

Dress Rehearsal

10 Dec

Dress Rehearsal

This is how our weekend will be spent…helping Sweet P and her ballet troup into gray tights and mouse heads so they can save Clara and her Nutcracker…

From Drosselmeyer….

As they fight with all their might…

The evil Rat King…who I didn’t get a picture of because I got in trouble for taking pictures backstage…oops

As they giggle and laugh under their costumes…

Creating memories they will never forget.

Cheers to the holiday season!

30 Nov

Thanksgiving is over.  And I ate too much.

And now it is November 30th…the day before December 1st.  Only a hand full of days left in 2010.

Where has this year gone?

Don’t you feel like time is flying by??

I am always checking what’s next on the calendar…just wishing my life away.

Rarely do I take the time…or have the chance…to enjoy the daily routine because we are constantly running for here to there.

Last year, I finished my Christmas shopping right around Thanksgiving…and I loved it.

And this year…on November 30…my Christmas shopping is almost complete albeit teacher gifts and few stocking stuffers.  And for that, I am thankful.

And now I can enjoy the rest of the year…cooking with my children, making gifts for friends, wrapping presents with no rush, and really taking time to appreciate everything I am thankful for like…

My husband who loves me no matter how neurotic I can be…and adores his children…

My daughter who loves reading to her little brother….

My son who loves his big sister more than anything in this world…

My Bella doodle bug who I never thought I could love more than my Josie bear…

My mom who tells me she loves me every day….

My dad for being a true father….

And my friends who never give up on me…who ‘sharpen iron with iron’…and inspire me to be a better person…

“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”  Proverbs 27:17

I hope we all enjoy the rest of the 2010 and love, encourage, and sharpen eachother.

Give me some sugar

5 Nov

Give me some sugar

You know he’s the second child when a conversation goes like this:

Me:  what would you like to drink?

Him:  a coke.

Me:  a coke?

Him: no coke.

Me: no coke?

Him: no coke. I like-ah big ol’ coke, peas.

Me:  you like-ah big ol’ coke?

Him:  yes peas.

Me:  you’re cute. give me some sugar.

Him:  no mom, you give me some sugar.

Me: okay.

Him: wait mom wait. where’s my coke?

And I give him a coke so I can get some sugar.  And he holds the cup with one hand.

And I love him.

I apologize to his future wife right now for giving him whatever he wants.

I am sorry.  But he is cute.  And I can’t help it.

I’ll get you my pretty!

29 Oct

I’ll get you my pretty!

She wanted to be a witch.

I said no.

She said please.

I still said no.

She said I can be a cute witch?

I said fine.

She said we can make me a hot pink tutu?

I said you are my child, aren’t you?

And we made a hot pink and black tutu with sparkly fabric underneath…but you can’t see it because I sewed the sparkly fabric backwards.  But don’t tell her because she thinks, because I told her, it was supposed to be like that.

And we found fabulous hot pink and black tights at Target.  And the hat.  And the broom which she picked out because it looked ‘vintage.’  Don’t you love her?

The entire costume cost about $10 and only about 5 minutes to make the skirt.  (tutorial alert!)

And definitely her most favorite…which is priceless.

Happy Halloween!

if you’re happy & you know it…

22 Oct

if you’re happy & you know it…

Eat Ice Cream. Cotton Candy Ice Cream.

And that is what we did. Before dinner. On a Tuesday. And it was good.

You see…Sweet P and I are very close. She is experiencing separation anxiety at school. And she cries. And I cry. And it is awful.

And I think 3rd grade might just kill me.

I want her to feel better. We have never gone through this before and I would seriously homeschool if my husband would let me. But that is a different story on a different day.

We have set up goals and she has done so much better this week. So we went for ice cream and it was perfect. And this weekend we are having special time together…just her and I.

I am so thankful for her best friend and another friend who is a boy that are so unbelievably supportive to her. They wink at each other when her eyes get teary and tell the other kids she is suffering from ‘pollen’ aka allergies. What a blessing their sweet hearts are to our family.

And I pray for another little girl to stop calling her a baby. This is especially hurtful because she has known her for a long time. But we will pray…and move along. And be thankful this is making her stronger.

I now understand how my mother felt when I was hurting.

I would take it all away from my child in an instant if I could…and I would. Without thinking twice.

Being a parent changes your perspective on life, how you should be treated, and how you should treat others.

“Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32

who knew?

15 Oct

who knew?

They would be BFF’s.  Who knew Little Man could talk ‘doggie’?  Who knew Bella-boo-doodle-bug would listen to a 2 year old?  Who knew?

Little Man finally has someone he can boss around.

And you see Buzz Lightyear?  He has become my 3rd child…he goes everywhere with us.  And if we can’t find him, it is almost as bad as not finding blankie.

My days are a little hectic lately.  If you were to walk into my home, you might report me to that show “Hoarders”. Seriously.

But capturing moments like these make me forget about all the rest of the ‘stuff’ I have to do.  I don’t want my children to look back on their childhood and think ‘wow, we had a really clean house!’

I pray for them to remember coloring, reading, playing, dancing, singing….and teaching the dog how to spell.  And holding onto Buzz Lightyear for dear life and when we can’t find, mom turned the house upside down to find him.

Capture your moment today…and forget about all the rest of that ‘stuff’ because that is really all it is…just stuff.
